Professor Johnathan Rees: “Delivering your best presentation” – Atrium Presentation Workshop
Professor Johnathan Rees (Professor of Dermatology, clinical academic & superb speaker) will be leading a session on how to deliver a superb and succinct presentation. Presenting in front of an audience can be a very daunting task for medics-especially since we receive very little formal training in this subject. Learn how to make a positive impact on your audience and present research findings in a scientific, concise and elegant manner. Many students will be given the opportunity to present work as part of SSC or their honours projects at various student and national meetings (such as the upcoming Atrium conference), and will benefit greatly from this event.
All year groups are welcome.
This event will take place in the Old Medical School, Teviot Place at 19:00 on Tuessday 19th March 2013.

Dr James Blackmur: Audit Skills Workshop
Dr James Blackmur will be running an audit skills workshop for Atrium, focusing on conducting audits, which will cover topics including:
1. Identifying areas of practice for audit
2. Setting up an audit
3. Completing the audit cycle.
Audits are a vital tool in evidence based clinical practice that identify areas of clinical care needing improvement. An understanding of audits and the ability to undertake them are attributes that employers are finding increasingly desirable from medical graduates applying to both foundation and speciality posts. Many students will be undertaking audit-type projects for SSC2b/4 and these are an excellent way of gaining some research experience. Moreover, completing an audit could lead to the opportunity to present your findings at national and international meetings.
All year groups are welcome.
This event will take place in the Old Medical School, Teviot Place at 19:00 on Thursday 14th March 2013.

Moreover, as of next year, teaching in the form of PALs and student led tutorials will become a mandatory task for all fourth years as part of an SSC4b. All year groups are welcome and refreshments will be provided.
